investigators believe the woman was swerving to avoid another vehicle when she slammed into that building. say the david decastro care will be closed on monday. >> a police pursuit through the streets of baltimore ended in a deadly crash. it started just before midnight friday night when drug investigators tried to stop an s.u.v. that appeared to have an armed person inside. once police were on the trail, the vehicle in question hit another vehicle and hit a tree near the intersection of broadway at biddle streets. police have been doing accident reconstruction and interviewing eyewitnesses and confirm recovering a handgun and two riplica guns from the s.u.v. identities of the suspects are being withheld. and homicide detectives are searching for whoever shot and killed a 19-year-old man in east baltimore. authorities called to the 2500 block of hoffman street just

before 3:30 saturday afternoon where they found the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. the victim's identity has not been released. detectives are scouring the city this morning in their search for this missing 12-year-old girl. d'naijah anderson never made it home from school on thursday and was last seen around the 1500 block of woodheights avenue. police are asking anyone with information to call 911 immediately. d'naijah is 4'9" and was wearing a yellow hooded sweatshirt, navy blue shirt and khaki pants. >> emergency responders spent hours at a high rise on saturday in harbor east, training in the event of a terrorist attack. it's a full-scale elaborate exercise based on how quickly local emergency jurisdictions can respond to a terrorism incident with mass casualties.

the scenario was designed to be as realistic as possible with victims played by actors and training mannequins. >> when i arrived. i met with the police incident commander and what happens is the police had a bomb, the bomb -- they had several bombs, devices, and one of them exploded. at that point it becomes a fire nowrtment operation because we have wounded civilians, structural stability to the building and possibly a fire. >> trying to figure out where all the patients were, who needed to be transported first, getting everybody into an area where they can be treated and figuring which hospitals had room. >> emergency crews tell us they were able to pinpoint what they need to work on to be more efficient in the event of an act of terrorism. one the areas that needs the most improvement, patient

only at denny's. open all night. >> now, your 11 insta-weather plus forecast with ava with ava. >> the mountains in the northwest united states received their first snowfall of the year. live video of snoqualme pass. you can see them preparing the ski resorts. so far tonight, we are expecting a few more inches of snow up there and snow levels continue to drop in elevation. as you look at radar across the nation, you can see a little bit of snow falling in the cascades, east of seattle, east of eugene, as well. now we see more rain looking the plains across north

dakota, moving into minnesota, as well, but the east is quiet right now. despite a few lake effect rain showers moving across upstate new york into western pennsylvania, it's quiet over baltimore. we expect sunshine today, temperatures close to normal, nothing too extreme. as we look at what's happening right now, a look at the national weather pattern, we have a large area of high pressure in control right now. this high pressure will bring the sunshine but also drawing in cooler air. that air mass came in out of canada. back to the west, we saw rain on the radar, associated with a storm system right now centered over south dakota. the warm front extending over the plains, pushing our way. we will see a bump in temperatures. first i want to take you down to the tropics, we are still in hurricane season. i know it's been quiet for the united states, we only had one impact to the gulf coast. but here we see development here, not a lot of clouds but a

little bit of circulation that the national hurricane center is watching. twhas we have to watch south of cuba and we expect it to be an area that could develop, a 60% chance at this point, and if so, we expect it to move north. looking back towards the mid lick, temperatures in the low 50's downtown, 49 in catonsville and 47 in randallstown. the forecast around baltimore, sunshine, high temperatures in the mid to upper 60's. we look into tonight, a few the sky, chilly once again, dropping down to near 47 downtown but low 40's to upper 30's in the suburbs. the future cast shows the warm front pulling our way going into tuesday.

by tuesday, we could see a few more clouds and the tail end of the warm front may bring precipitation our way by tuesday. very minimal. we are calling for a sprinkle. that clears out, the stays north and we will see a bump into the temperatures into the upcoming days. that takes us to the seven-day forecast. up to 71 tomorrow, possibility of sprinkle. into tuesday, 73, wednesday, 75 and temperature could be into the upper 70's looking into thursday. >> in the fight to end homelessness, baltimore is pulling out all the stops. in this year's journey home gala, city officials put together an event geared toward educating people about homelessness in baltimore and mobilizing them to do something about it. guests were guided through an imaginary street to help educate people about what causes people to live on the streets and how

their stamp of approval. >> catherine cooper is a 38-year-old business executive who wants to have children some day but not yet. a year ago, she decide to have some of her eggs frozen and stored so in the future she has a chance of having a baby that is genetically her own. >> i wanted to have the option to have kids. >> today the american society for reproductive medicine said freezing is no longer experimental but routine fertility treatment. >> we are able to get a baby rate for similar with frozen thawed eggs as we are with a standard in vitro for fertiliza. >> doctors learned to do it without water so ice crystals harm the eggs.

without egg freezing, women near or past 40 can often only have children through eggs donated by others. it can be used for cancer patients and others with limited fertility. >> i don't think that's for an agency to decide how a woman chooses to conduct her reproductive life. >> egg freezing costs between $20,000 and $40,000. few insurers will pay for it but at the very least, today's news calls attention to a new fertility option for many women. >> and a dale multivite main may help cut cancer risk in older men. this is the first large-scale study of its kind. the study included nearly 15,000 mean over the age of 50 followed for a decade.

researchers found a daily dose of centrum silver translated into an 8% reduced risk for cancer overall for those men. that's less effective than a good diet, exercise and not smoking. a compound derived from veggies may help treat an aggressive form of breast cancer. researchers who developed this experimental vegetable compound say it fights triple negative breast cancer who grows faster, spreads earlier and recurs more often than others. they at a is could some day be available in pill form for daily use. a new tool teaching us about how the brain heals from traumatic injury called fiber tracking, used to track car crash survivors and injured soldiers returning from war. fiber tracking breaks it down to

temperature down to 40 with relatively dry air in place. that will make for a nice sunday as we have sunny skies, seasonal temperatures, highs in the mid to upper 60's towards the afternoon. even warmer weather on the way in the seven-day. we will talk about that coming up >> covering the nation this morning, police have assembled a task force to investigate a series of random shootings in the area west of detroit. between tuesday and thursday, 16 incidents were reported. the shootings took place interstate 96 and nearby communities. several cars were hit by gunshots and the gunman was shooting as he approached from the opposite lane of traffic. no one was injured so far but there have been several close calls. >> it's crazy. people are getting shot at all over the place. kids are scared, parents are

scared. >> police right now are searching for a dark sports car covered with racing stripes. they say the headlights may be tinted blue. >> a gunman set fire to a house in los angeles early saturday morning and opened fire on the family living inside, killing the father and son. police say the father was shot as he tried to shield two of his children from the gunman. police say the mother made an extraordinary rescue attempt, although shot in the legs, she carried her wounded son to a neighbor's yard after the attack. the boy later died. two other children were injured and the mother is in critical condition. >> wedding bliss for the heir to luxembourg's throne and his new wife. prince guillaume married. royalty from around the world traveled to the tiny european

country to celebrate and a fender-bender in southern china brought freedom to a bunch of pigs. a truck carrying the pigs was rear-ended by another vehicle and overturned. police arrived to direct traffic as the pig's owner and others were eventually able to round up the animals. no one, including the pigs, were hurt in the accident. >> baltimore city hit with another lawsuit. why they're accused of unfair practices. >> and they can dart out of nowhere, what drivers can do to avoid deer collisions. >> keeping an eye on the tropics, still in hurricane season and something may be developing. the mass of clouds south of hispaniola has circulation with it. that circulation has the national hurricane center it right now. it has a 60% chance of development. that could mean, if it does develop into a tropical system, current models have it moving north. we will keep an eye on that. in the west coast, high pressure in control after the cold front moved through on friday. behind that, a storm system coming across the plains that extends across nebraska and kansas right now. this will push our way the next couple of days, bringing a bump to the temperatures so look forward to that if you're trying to hang on to nice weather. 53 degrees downtown, 49 at b.w.i. thurgood marshall. 49 in catonsville and 47 in randallstown. today, a lot of sunshine and temperatures where they should be, highs in the mid to upper

thursday. >> while fall is a beautiful time of the year, it's prime time for deer activity. >> the national highway safety administration estimates -- >> one of these creatures darts into your path. >> we hear most of the time, i never saw it, it was just in the road. they're fast. >> they are fast and right now they're out in numbers. >> when i hit the deer, i was in a smaller vehicle and it actually made the air bag on the driver's side go off. it was a pretty good impact. it totaled the car off. >> it's shocking, traumatic and can cost you a lot of money. on average, workers at charlie's paint and body repair 40 vehicles damaged by deer each year. just last week this, vehicle was towed in.

the driver came in contact with three deer and they did damage to several areas on the car but the deer also broke out the window where a small child was sitting. >> that job was about a $6,000 wreck. we had to put two doors on it, repair the quarter panel and hood, bumper cover, or two bumper covers. >> automobile claims caused by contact with deer rise dramatically in the fall, as well. that's why it's important to have comprehensive coverage. >> comprehensive is what covers fire, theft, glass breakage and damage caused by animals such as deer. >> to cut down on the damage, davis recommends putting a brush guard on your vehicle. >> we've seen some vehicles that had them on there and it really all you had to do was replace the brush guard. >> the most important factor is protecting yourself and your family. that's why you should always slow down, be extra cautious, especially during dusk and dawn. >> don't hit the brakes because

announced last week the unemployment insurance rate will drop starting in january. state leader say nearly $700 million. >> with the lowering of these rates, most employers in maryland will pay at least $100 less in unemployment insurance taxes annually per worker. >> officials hope owners will use the savings to expand businesses and increase hiring. >> baltimore city could be facing a lawsuit over its long-plagued water billing system. the city court clerk has announced plans to file a suit against city officials for unfair practices. >> what the is called a writ of mandamus to force elected officials to do their job. >> frank conaway says the flood gates are about it open.

he announced plans to file a class-action lawsuit against the city, claiming unfair practice when is it comes to collecting money owed for water usage. it claims negligence, failure to perform official duties and denial of due process. >> i'm filing it for the people who have been taken advantage of, some who have lost their homes, some who have been overcharged for years while we have big corporations that don't pay at all. >> mayor stephanie rawlings-blake hasn't read his letter intenting to sue. >> it's clear to me that threatening to sue it doesn't solve the problems. we have scarce resources i'm focused on to get the work done. >> a spokesperson from the city says it is rare someone would lose their home for delinquences

but conaway says those people exist. >> my attorney has the name of that will join in on the suit. it's going to get bigger and bigger. >> his attorney declined to provide the names. as for large corporations that owe money, the city says many are companies that are in bankruptcy. while the mayor didn't comment on specifics of the claim, she says her administration has been working to improve the billing system overall, hiring more meter readers and customer service representatives. >> we are working hard to correct a long-standing problem so i want people to understand that this has been messed up for a long time. >> conaway has run for mayor in the past but says he's not doing it for publicity of the he doesn't know when the lawsuit will be filed and he referred us to his attorney. >> coming up, americans will spend nearly $53 billion on pets

away. >> i'm sad for him and very happy for myself. isn't that terrible? it is kind of weird. but that's how it works with the layout of the land. >> this is a strange situation. why did it dump just here and nowhere else. >> george lettis, wbal-tv 11 news. >> you can stay informed any time severe weather strikes, download our free smartphone apps with instant information. >> barrack police are trying to figure out what brought a car crashing into a daycare center in woodlawn. at the joy of learning center at dogwood road towards woodlawn drive. investigators believe the woman was swerving to avoid another vehicle when she slammed into that building. no one was inside at the time but the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

officials say the daycare will be closed on monday. >> a police pursuit through the streets of baltimore ended in a deadly crash. this morning, detectives are trying to piece together how it all happened. it started just before midnight friday night when drug investigators tried to stop an s.u.v. that appeared to have an armed person inside. once police were on the trail, the vehicle in question hit another vehicle and hit a tree near the intersection of broadway at biddle streets. the person behind the wheel of the s.u.v. was killed and the passenger was seriously injured. police have been doing accident reconstruction and interviewing eyewitnesses and confirm recovering a handgun and two replica guns from the s.u.v. identities of the suspects are being withheld until criminal charges are filed. and homicide detectives are searching for whoever shot and killed a 19-year-old man in east baltimore. authorities were called to the 2500 block of hoffman street just before 3:30 saturday afternoon where they found the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

it's unclear whether the shooting was random or the victim was targeted. the victim's identity has not been released. detectives are scouring the city this morning in their search for this missing 12-year-old girl. d'naijah anderson never made it home from school on thursday and was last seen around the 1500 block of woodheights avenue. police are asking anyone with information to call 911 immediately. d'naijah is 4'9" and was wearing a yellow hooded sweatshirt, navy blue shirt and khaki pants. >> it was an intense four hours in a highrise in harbor east. emergency responders spent hours at a high rise on saturday in harbor east, training in the event of a terrorist attack. it's a full-scale elaborate exercise based on how quickly local emergency jurisdictions can respond to a terrorism incident with mass casualties. the scenario was designed to be as realistic as possible with victims played by actors and training mannequins. each first responder was given a

specific role. >> when i arrived, i met with the police incident commander and what happens is the police had a bomb, the bomb -- they had several bombs, devices, and one of them exploded. at that point it becomes a fire department operation because now we have wounded civilians, structural stability to the building and possibly a fire. >> trying to figure out where all the patients were, who needed to be transported first, getting everybody to an area where they can be treated and figuring which hospitals had room and which hospitals were going to take which patients. >> emergency crews tell us they were able to pinpoint what they need to work on to be more efficient in the event of an act of terrorism. one the areas that needs the most improvement, patient accountability, but overall, the drill was hailed as an effective way to make sure local jurisdictions are ready to do what's needed during an attack.

weather, typical for this time of year. temperatures will increase the next couple of days once a warm front passes through, arriving into the midweek. i do want to take you into the tropics. we've forgotten about the tropics but the hurricane season lasts until november 30 and we have activity down there. here's a look at the caribbean with a batch of clouds south of hispaniola with a little bit of rotation with it, although it's lost cloud cover in the overnight hours. this is something the national hurricane center is keeping an eye on. i watched some of the models. if it develops, it may track north, a concern for cuba, possibly florida in the upcoming days. let's take you back to the temperature around baltimore. 52 degrees in downtown baltimore, 48 degrees at b.w.i. thurgood marshall and 38 in catonsville.

temperatures today will be close to where they should be this time of year. high temperatures ranging from the mid to upper 60's. sunny skies and the sun will rise at 7:23 this morning. tonight, mostly clear, 47 degrees downtown and low 40's in the outer suburbs, areas north and west may drop into the upper 30's. future cast showing dry weather throughout the day, hardly a cloud in the sky. the warm front will make its way east by tuesday and the tail end may possibly bring a little wet weather, not much more than a sprinkle. that will show up in the seven-day forecast and with warmer whether, as well. warming into the mid to upper 70's midweek. >> badges and baseball made for a perfect combination for young people in baltimore. it's about more than sports.

>> we begin this morning's consumer alert with several recalls to tell you about. the consumer products safety commission has recalled children's hoodies sold at target stores because of high levels of lead. the sets were made by the children's apparel network with disney characters on the front.

the c.p.s.c. says the zippers contain elevated levels of lead. a spray-on sunscreen is being recalled over a potential fire hazard. the maker of banana boat sunscreen is recalling half a million bottles of spray-on lotion after report that is a handful of people caught on fire after applying the product after coming in contact with open flames. the problem appears to be the spray valve which is overlapping the product and the maker is urging those who have the products not to use them. best buy is looking to keep up with online sites like amazon. many shoppers have gone into stores to check out an item but ordered it online for a cheaper price. best buy is trying to avoid this with a price matching policy. beginning now until christmas eve, the company is offering to match online prices and if the product isn't in the store, they'll send it with free

shipping. the policy excludes thanksgiving weekend and cyber monday. target is getting in on the competition for prices and to get your sales this holiday season so for the first time the retail giant will match prices with online competitors. target's online price match will take place between november 1 and december 16. all you have to do is show the competitor's online price with a smartphone or ask customer service to look it up for you. time for a look back and a look ahead at the week in wall street. deborah koustron has the bloomberg business report. >> apple is expected to make a big or mini announcement this tuesday. the company sends out invitations for what it's calling a special event on october 23 in san jose. sources say apple will unveil a smaller version of its very popular ipad that will reportedly beginner shipping

there have been several close call. >> it's crazy. people are getting shot at all over the place. kids are scared, parents are scared. someone's got to put a stop to it. >> police right now are searching for a dark sports car covered with racing stripes. they say the headlights may be tinted blue. >> a gunman set fire to a house near los angeles early saturday morning and opened fire on the family living inside, killing the father and son. police say the father was shot as he tried to shield two of his children from the gunman. police say the mother made an extraordinary rescue attempt, although shot in the legs, she carried her wounded son to a neighbor's yard after the attack. the boy later died. two other children were injured and the mother is in critical condition. >> from tragedy to wedded bliss for the heir to lux bower's throne and his new wife. prince guillaume married

stephanie de lannoy. it came a day after a civil ceremony took place at city hall. royalty from around the world traveled to the tiny european country to celebrate and a fender-bender in southern china brought freedom to a bunch of pigs. a truck carrying the pigs was rear-ended by another vehicle and overturned. that caused the animals to escape and roam around the road. police arrived to direct traffic as the pig's owner and others were eventually able to round up the animals. no one, including the pigs, were hurt in the accident. not something you see every day. >> or smell every day. coming up, new safety measures taken in baltimore county schools. thee will have more on hand-held metal detectors in place and what will cause the be able to use them. >> and the radar is looking quiet right over maryland. that's the case even as the upcoming days. i had this irritation going on in my lower neck. i changed shirts because i thought there was something in the collar of the shirt irritating my neck.

things are quiet until you look into garrett county where there are a few thin clouds right now. a large area of high pressure in control across the mid atlantic, bringing more sunshine throughout the day, lasting into terrible. eventually we will see the effects of a warm front that is across nebraska and kansas, pushing east the next couple of days and we will see a bounce in the temperatures because of it. i want to take you into the tropics where the national hurricane center is keeping an eye on two areas for possible development. we are still in hurricane season. it lasts until november 30. here we can see one area in the central atlantic that has a 30% chance for development. you can see rotation right there. also as we take you south of hispaniola, this one, a 60% chance for development, although it's lost a lot of cloud cover through the overnight hours, it has circulation they're keeping an eye on. if this one does develop, it could travel up towards the north when we will have to keep

tuesday, maybe a chance for sprinkle. 75 by wednesday. for now, we are expecting a high of 77 on thursday. >> in this morning's education alert, police in anne arundel county hope a smartphone app will open the lines of communication between students and police officers. officials unveiled the mobile app after recent gun incidents at area schools, police believe the technology will encourage students to provide helpful information before the tragedy occurs. >> high school kids want to do the right thing but they don't want you know it. they don't want to be seen as being a snitch so we want them to be able to do the right thing and keep it quiet. >> in addition to assessing

helpful phone numbers and links concerning security and wellbeing, schools can email the school resource officers directly. >> hand-held metal detectors to school police officers after a rash of gun incidents on school campuses. students can be approached at any time and scanned with the devices. tim tooten has details. >> the main office. >> it's another law enforcement tool to help school resource officers head off campus crime. police have been trained to use the wands in cases where they suspect the student is armed. >> the tools will be used when an roger officer has reasonable suspicion something isn't ride and that officer will engage in dialogue to try to detective whether or not there's a weapon. was a call for metal detectors after the student was shot in the cafeteria of perry hall high school first day of

classes. since, there have been three other gun-related incidents. the latest was atat owings mills high school. >> when an individual is carrying a weapon, they carry themselves different. they hold their belt line different. they'll be constantly touching the object itself. officers are trained at a young age in the police academy to look for these behaviors. >> police say even with hand held detectors, they'll continue to rely on students to speak up when classmates have weapons. it's an ongoing message from the county superintendent. >> we must make sure our schools are environments where students feel there is someone they can share information with. >> this high school student says she's more aware of her surroundings. >> when you see something happening, you should go to your

adviser or parent and tell them about the situation. >> police can use the wands on school property and at school-related events. police say an administrator must be on hand when the officers conduct the scans except when there's an emergency and add that they can only be used by trained officers. >> the fight to end homelessness in baltimore is pulling out all the stops. >> take time to create a health pet strategy that you can afford from diet to grooming choices to keep more money in your pocket. but fortunately a lot of sunshine today. 52 downtown, 48 in pikesville and 48 in cockeysville. in hunt valley, theater getting ready for the race for the cure at 8:00 a.m. when we expect the 5-k to start so if you're heading to that, expect temperatures to be in the upper 40's. sunshine throughout the morning. by lunch time, 61 with sunny skies and winds out of the west to the west-northwest. even warmer weather on the way in the seven-day forecast. we will have details coming up. >> thanks, ava. the weather is our big story this morning. the national weather service officials spent saturday on site trying to investigate what is believed to be a tornado that may have touched down in harford county. >> george lettis says it was a tornado that hit his neighborhood.

>> how can you describe this as we look at this? >> it's a mess. and i'm hoping somebody will help me clean it up. >> don alcorn of jarrettsville can chuckle about it now but friday night, this monster of a storm was barreling down on he and his wife's backyard full of huge trees and chickens. >> i said, you know, channel 11 is saying there's a tornado over our head and she said, really? and five minutes later, it hit. >> it was 15 terrorizing seconds of that freight train sound. 15 seconds did a lot here. >> it come real quick and swirled like a windmill going around. i ran downstairs and i was looking out here and the next thing i heard was a big boom. >> the sound of two huge trees crashing to the ground, one has two adjoining trunks. the one farthest from the house fell. >> i would assume you consider yourselves lucky to be alive? >> oh, yes because if that other half would have went instead of this half, it would have gone through the house.

dogwood road towards woodlawn drive. investigators believe the woman was swerving to avoid another vehicle when she slammed into that building. fortunately, no one was inside at the time. but the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. officials say the daycare will be closed on monday. right now, there's no word on a damage estimate. >> a police pursuit through the streets of baltimore ended in a deadly crash. this morning, detectives are trying to piece together how it all happened. it started just before midnight friday night when drug investigators tried to stop an s.u.v. that appeared to have an armed person inside. once police were on the trail, the vehicle in question hit another vehicle and hit a tree near the intersection of broadway at biddle streets. the person behind the wheel of the s.u.v. was killed and the passenger was seriously injured. police have been doing accident reconstruction and interviewing eyewitnesses and confirm recovering a handgun and two replica guns from the s.u.v. identities of the suspects are being withheld until criminal charges are filed. and homicide detectives are searching for whoever shot and

killed a 19-year-old man in east baltimore. authorities were called to the 2500 block of hoffman street just befor3:30 saturday afternoon where they found the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. it's unclear whether the shooting was random or the victim was targeted. the victim's identity has not been released. detectives are scouring the city this morning in their search for this missing 12-year-old girl. d'naijah anderson never made it home from school on thursday and was last seen around the 1500 block of woodheights avenue. police are asking anyone with information to call 911 immediately. d'naijah is 4'9" and was wearing a yellow hooded sweatshirt, navy blue shirt and khaki pants. >> emergency responders from around the region spent hours at a high rise on saturday at harror east.

training in the event of a terrorist attack. it's a full-scale elaborate exercise based on how quickly local emergency jurisdictions can respond to a terrorism incident with mass casualties. the scenario was designed to be as realistic as possible with victims played by actors and training mannequins. each first responder was given a specific role. >> when i arrived, i met with the police incident commander and what happens is the police had a bomb, the bomb -- they had several bombs, devices, and one of them exploded. at that point it becomes a fire department operation because now we have wounded civilians, structural stability to the building and possibly a fire. >> trying to figure out where all the patients were, who needed to be transported first, getting everybody to an area where they can be treated and figuring which hospitals had room and which hospitals were going to take which patients. >> emergency crews tell us they were able to pinpoint what they need to work on to be more efficient in the event of an act of terrorism.

one the areas that needs the most improvement, patient accountability, but overall, the drill was hailed as an effective way to make sure local jurisdictions are ready to do what's needed during an attack. >> just over two weeks left in the race for the white house and both presidential candidates are prepping this weekend for their third and final debate. the subject, foreign policy, and the white house is on the line. brian moore is in washington with this morning's commitment 2012 update. >> with 17 days remaining before election day, republican v.p. candidate paul ryan was trying to turn the tide in ohio. >> you have such a huge say-so in all of this. ohio is the battleground of battleground states. >> vice president biden was fighting for another key electoral prize -- florida. >> we need you.

especially as you step outside of baltimore. 46 in westminster, 44 in parkton, 42 in hancock. further west from that, 30's in oakland and frostburg. a lot of sunshine as high pressure is in control and that will stick around for the entire day. not a cloud in the sky until you get to garrett county. eventually we will watch as a warm front moves our way. right now this warm front sitting across nebraska and eastern kansas will push east the next couple of days and will bring warmer weather as well as a slight chance of wet weather. we will talk about that in the seven-day forecast. i want to take you to the tropics where we are in hurricane season. the national hurricane center is keeping an eye on two areas that they have to watch for. this one is in the central part of the atlantic, only a 30% chance of development at this point but this one has a better

chance, 60%, this tropical wave sitting south of hispaniola. not too much cloud cover associated with it though it has that circulation they're watching. if it develops, it could track north which could be a concern for florida by next weekend. 67 for the high temperature today in baltimore. 66 for ocean city, cooler in the mountains with a high in the mid 50's with sunshine throughout the day. that's the forecast. sunny she's, winds from the west, 5 to 10 miles per hour. tonight, mostly clear skies. chilly and upper 30's out to the suburbs tonight. the seven-day forecast shows we warm up with the warm front by monday, 71 degrees. 72 on tuesday and the upper 70's through the midweek.

and i approve this message. >> time now is 7:16, 48 degrees at the airport. october is breast cancer awareness month and we've made great strides in raising awareness and research. dietitian marie spano is here to talk about prevention.

we see a lot of familiar things on this table. you're going to talk about the best ways to decrease our chances of getting breast cancer by staying healthy. >> there are three main things women can do. first, maintain healthy weight. people that are overweight or obese have an increased risk of developing breast cancer, a poor prognosis if they have breast cancer and increased risk of recurrence if they've had breast cancer. are two steps people should take right now to maintain healthy weight. first, add protein. higher protein foods like eggs increase signals sent to the brain to tell our stomach that we're full so we eat fewer the course of the day. the eggs also contain more than twice the amount of vitamin d and omega 3 fats and more than

10 times the amount of vitamin e. >> key is moderation. >> moderation and they are supporting the race for the cure with the pink ribbon. next, pack in produce. it takes a volume on your plate and takes up volume in your stomach so you eat fewer calories over the course of the day. there are several things people can do. choose different types of produce. look for the vegetables, different soups, stew mixes. these are fantastic, soup mixs, to make sure every meal has fruits and particularly nonstarchy vegetables. grab, steam-and-go vegetables. add country crock with 70% less saturated fat. and i added dill on diop. >> -- top. >> i see a lot of color.

>> color is important. if you vary your vegetable intake, you'll get different nutrients and antioxidants. >> switching gears to exercise. we know it's important but how much can it help in terms of cutting the risk of breast cancer? >> according to the world cancer research fund and american institute of cancer research, exercise is crucial. they suggest three hours or more per week can decrease one's risk for breast cancer. >> we hear things about aerobic versus weight bearing. do we know what's more effective? >> i tell clients do what they love to do and what they can fit into their schedule because if you love it, you'll continue to exercise, whether that means weight lifting, grapg -- grabbing something you can do at home like resistant bands, jumpropes. grab a pedometer, it will tell you through the course of the day how many steps you've walked

and encourage to you walk more. >> this smells fantastic. i guess this is a test for me, serving size? >> which one would you choose? >> i would choose this one but i'm guessing you're going to say this is the appropriate size. >> yeah, and the one you chose, this is what you often see in restaurants but studies show that one or more drinks per day increases a woman's risk of developing breast cancer so reduce and replace. reduce your alcohol consumption and if you can, replace it with non-alcoholic alternatives or at least vary each drink, mock tails. >> moving down, i've seen packaging for breast cancer awareness month, so same products, drawing attention to the -- >> they're drawing attention. if you see the pink ribbon, it means they're donating profits to breast cancer awareness and research.

contraception. on the trail, that's a big issue of debate. we will talk to senator marco rubio of florida, ohio republican mark portman and david axelrod. >> what is the sense of what the candidates have accomplished in the first two debates? >> i think you've seen the race move and become a tighter race as a result. people really paying attention to this, romney showing up well. i think the last debate was contentious, might have turned voters off. the big question is how many undecided voters do we have left at this stage? it's something we will discuss with chuck todd who goes inside the numbers. another piece of news this morning, the latest from the nbc news "wall street journal" poll showing the latest head-to-head matchup in the state of the race. >> you mentioned the tone was different the second debate

parkton, 48 degrees in easton. in garrett county, the 30's in oakland and frostburg in the upper thoirts start the morning. clear skies, only a few clouds and the rest of the state enjoying sunshine as the sun rises in the sky thanks to a large area of high pressure as it's going to hold its place in the east the next two days, then we watch for a warm front to move our way, currently in nebraska and eastern kansas, marching east into tuesday, a slight chance for wet weather but the better chance is we will see a jump in temperatures. we can pick it up on the national weather picture as you see 74 degrees in houston. 75 degrees as we go into dallas and this warmth is pushing into the plains and this is what's going to move our way into the next couple of days. looking at the forecast in baltimore today, close to normal. highs in the mid to upper 60's,

a lot of sunshine and winds out of the west 5 to 10 miles per hour. tonight, skies stay clear, dropping to 47 downtown, 40's across the suburbs and upper 30's farther north and west. that takes us to the seven-day forecast. sunshine will last into monday because of that high pressure system. we warm up to 71 degrees tomorrow after a cool start in the low 40's by the morning hours. then we expect by tuesday to be up to 73. that's when we have a slight chance of wet weather. for now, only a chance for sprinkle. we continue to warm up to midweek possibly hitting 77 by thursday. each and every day, pears. partly sunny skies. we may have to watch for wet weather at the end of next weekend. >> there's no denying the job market is tough out there. if you are lucky enough to get an interview, you don't want to blow it. how long does it take to make a

first impression in. >> it happens immediately and i think the interesting part that we'll talk about is it happens from the moment you get out of your car when you could be interacting with somebody on the elevator or the front lobby. it's immediate and you need to recognize people make immediate impressions. >> we have a graphic to show you, the perception of how long it takes. >> you can see that 2% of the people said that they make an interception -- impression immediately. 16% say within five minutes and 42% say within 10 minutes so the big thing to take away from that is everybody makes a first impression very quickly. you say from personal experience it's getting out of the car because you don't know what you're riding the elevator with, what the front office lady will say about you. >> everybody's judging you. you're there to interview to work at that company, these people are looking at you as a

potential co-worker and they will rat you out in a heartbeat. >> you want to get off to a good start. >> absolutely and pay attention to details. dress nicely, make good eye contact, have a good hand shake. those simple things create a great first impression and enable you to bond with the person you're speaking with. >> don't be too overconfident, either. >> you don't want to be overly cocky, pretend like you have the answers to everything. there's a balance to draw between great accomplishments you've had and understanding that you don't want to come across as overbearing. >> you want to be yourself and show your own personality. >> if you look overly rehearsed, it's going to be difficult for you to have a comfortable conferring -- conversation like we're having. you want people to want to work with you and the more robotic you are, the more difficult that is to believe. >> comfortable but not casual?

>> not too casual. there are people, accomplished interviewers will let down their guard to see how far you will go. the don't curse an interview. don't do silly things and people will trip you up with that. >> take it seriously. you shared a story about someone who brought lunch to an interview. >> i had someone who came in for a lunch-time interview and had their bag from a fast food restaurant and asked if they could eat while we speak and that's not a good first impression. >> definitely not. thanks very much. barks is joining us with a cute pet that needs a good home.

open up as they sit a little bit so as you squeeze them, they shut back up a little bit. you want to start with a hot saute pan so the oils are smoking and add the mussels. you hear them simmer and as they cook, they're going to start opening up. >> they're popping. >> as they open up, you want to add white wine and then we actually make the diabla in house at the rusty scupper so we add that to it to infuse the flavors and put it in a dish and ready to go. >> you make it sound so easy. what happens if you had the them cook too long? >> they'll going to be tough. you really want to strive to when the mussels are opening up already. you don't want them to cook too much longer than that but you

want them to be fully open. >> if any of them don't open up, don't eat them! i would suggest not. occasionally you'll get a mussel, you might find one with mud in it occasionally. >> do you need to clean them before you cook them? >> depending on what you get. we get a cultured m.s.u.el from prince edward island at the rusty scupper but if you get a wild mussel, you'll have burrs in it and pull those out and wash them thoroughly and then put them in the pan. >> what's in the diablo sauce? >> crushed red pepper, obviously, we put onions, fresh basil, saute that up, white wine and garlic so not a lot of ingredients but i think the less

complicated you make things, the better they'll taste. >> and the white wine that you added at the start, any particular type you hike to cook with? >> we use a house chap -- chablis and started with blended oil and now i'm putting the white wine in. >> is this -- sorry, you've got it mixed up. is this an item we can find on your jazz brunch menu? >> occasionally on the sunday brunch menu but it's on the regular menu for lunch and dinner at the rusty scupper. >> tell people about the jazz brunch you have there. >> we serve a wide variety of items. we have a chicken dish, shrimp and scallop dish, fish dish, then we also have your traditional favorite, bacon sausage, home fries.

and in a big way.
